A trip down memory lane with Rebecca Boissezon
Rebecca Boissezon joined BankVic in 2009, after being introduced to mutual banking during a short contract role at another mutual bank. She was ready to see where a place like BankVic might take her, and nearly seventeen years and eight roles later, Bec is the Chief Product & Marketing Officer. She takes us through her journey with BankVic.
Rebecca Boissezon will tell you that she has grown up at BankVic. It is not a throwaway line.
Bec has been here for close to seventeen years, and in that time she has moved through the contact centre, through support and analyst roles, through operations leadership, and into the executive team. The organisation has changed around her, and she has helped change it. The two are hard to separate now.
"Of course, that's why I've been here for close to 17 years," she says, when asked what she enjoys about working at BankVic.
"It's a privilege to serve the police, emergency services, and health communities, and to contribute to an organisation that supports those who do so much for our community."
She started as a Member Response Consultant, working in the contact centre and helping members with their day-to-day banking needs. From there she moved into a Support Coordinator role, then into analysis and improvement work as a Sales Performance Analyst, a Data Analyst, and an Innovation and Improvement Partner. She was building a picture of the whole organisation, not just one corner of it.
"BankVic is always an exciting place to work," she says.
"There is constantly something new and interesting to work on, challenges to solve, and opportunities to connect with both members and colleagues. The variety of work, the strong sense of purpose, and the people I get to work with every day are what make BankVic such a rewarding place to be."
That variety has also been the engine of her career. From the improvement and innovation work, she stepped into lending operations leadership as a Team Leader, then Head of Banking Operations, before moving into the CPMO role. Each chapter brought new terrain. None of it required her to leave.
"No two days are the same, and there's always something new to learn, improve, or help deliver."
When the conversation turns to specific projects, Bec does not have to think long. Two innovations stand out from a long list of contributions, and both of them are now part of the everyday banking experience for BankVic members.
"Two projects that stand out for me are NPP/Osko and Mobile Wallets implementations," she says.
"They were especially rewarding because of the significant impact these services have had on the payments industry and the way our members, or consumers in general, manage their day-to-day banking. Looking back now, they have really changed the payments landscape."
NPP, the New Payments Platform, brought near-instant payments to Australian banking. Mobile Wallets brought Apple Pay and Google Pay to BankVic members. Both were industry-wide shifts that required BankVic to move quickly, deliver reliably, and keep the member experience at the centre of every decision. Bec helped make both happen.
"Being part of the team that delivered these innovations to our members is something I am particularly proud of."
Bec is careful not to claim the credit alone. Her answers about colleagues carry the same instinct.
"I've been incredibly lucky to work with so many wonderful people across the organisation throughout my time at BankVic," she says.
"Whether it's been team members, project colleagues, executives, or Board members, I've had the opportunity to learn from and work alongside some truly dedicated and talented people."
Invited to name some she’s enjoyed working with, Bec defers.
"If I started naming individuals, there would be far too many to mention, which is a testament to the quality of people we have across the organisation."
Life has not stood still outside the office, either. Bec arrived in 2009 and has been through a good deal since: homes bought, travels taken, engagements celebrated, and all of the other big moments that accumulate across seventeen years of adult life.
"I often say that I feel like I've grown up at BankVic. It has been a constant throughout all of those milestones, which makes my connection to the organisation feel particularly special."
For anyone weighing up BankVic against somewhere else, Bec draws directly on her own experience as proof.
"If you're looking for a workplace where you can build a long and rewarding career, I'd strongly encourage you to consider BankVic. For me, the fact that I've been here for close to 17 years speaks for itself."
The opportunity to keep growing is what Bec comes back to most. She talks about working across different teams, contributing to a wide range of projects, and building skills in areas she had not anticipated.
"That variety has kept my work interesting and has allowed me to continually learn and develop new skills without needing to look elsewhere."
The best piece of advice Bec has carried through her career is straightforward, and she has found it worth heeding.
"Take every opportunity you can. It's a simple piece of advice, but it has certainly helped me."
Nearly seventeen years in, the evidence is clear that Bec has done exactly that, and with great success.
